The Freehold
- Completed: 2015
- Size: 3,500 sq ft café / 20,000 sq ft total envelope
Steps from Two Tree’s Domino Sugar Factory Development, Freehold Cafe brings the ever-expanding South Williamsburg a much-needed venue for all demographics that embodies the neighborhoods roots. Crown provided the layout, filings, and legalization of the entire 20,000 sq ft building layout, and custom designed each element of the café.
The inspiration comes from themes of the Ace Hotel lobby and Soho house, capturing the feel of a 1970’s coffee shop with Art Deco inspiration while maximizing the efficiency to be a hub for local artists and business people. Every element is custom to the point where Crown commissioned our own iron worker to fabricate directly out of the space.
This once plumbing storage warehouse was transformed through the addition of a garage door for grab and go, brick replaced by a large window overlooking the Williamsburg Bridge, a concrete coffee bar, uniquely patterned flooring, and custom millwork that creates a truly one of a kind illuminated ceiling.
